In a June 2025 National Clearinghouse white paper, it was reported that 37.5 million people under the age of 65 had left American higher education without completing a degree (2.1 million in the preceding year, alone). Efforts to re-enroll these students have been growing nationally as institutions and states seek to address the administrative, financial, work/school balance, advising and support needs of this population of students. In an era where every enrollment counts, is this an area where consortia can make a significant contribution? How can you document the magnitude of this population for your consortium schools and how do you make the case for action?
Join this ACL webinar to hear about two existing collaborative efforts to successfully draw this population of former students back into the academy. Cassie Barlow (SOCHE) will share the BOLD Compact program underway among SOCHE’s public and private institutions covering two states while Joanna Dressel (Ithaka S+R) will share the results of their multi-year work with the Ohio College Comeback program, a partnership between public 2- and 4-year institutions.
Presenters: Cassie Barlow, President, Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education; Joanna Dressel, Senior Analyst, Ithaka S+R
Moderator: Vicki McGillin, Associate Vice President, Gardner Institute
